About preventive dentistry

A proper check-up is more than a quick look. We examine every tooth and your gums, take low-dose digital X-rays when they are due, and clean away the tartar a brush can't reach.

Catching a small cavity now costs a filling. Finding it in two years' time costs a root canal — which is why we treat the six-monthly visit as the most valuable appointment we offer.

This may be suitable if you have

  • You haven't seen a dentist in the last six months
  • Your gums bleed when you brush or floss
  • You have stains from tea, coffee or smoking
  • Bad breath that brushing doesn't fix

How treatment works

  1. Quick history

We ask about pain, sensitivity and any medicines — five minutes, no forms to dread.

  2. Exam and X-rays

A full check and, if needed, low-dose digital X-rays you can see on screen.

  3. Clean and plan

Scaling and polish, then a plain-language summary of what is healthy and what to watch.

Frequently asked questions

Does scaling damage enamel?

No. Ultrasonic scaling removes hardened tartar sitting on the tooth, not the enamel itself. Teeth can feel sensitive for a day or two as gums that were covered by tartar settle down.

How often should I come in?

Every six months for most people. If you have gum disease or a lot of dental work, we may suggest every three to four months.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Our digital sensors use a small fraction of the dose of old film X-rays, and we only take them when the result will change a decision.
