About periodontal (gum) therapy

Gum disease is the most common reason adults lose teeth, and it is usually painless until it is advanced. Bleeding when you brush is the early warning.

We measure the pockets around each tooth, clean below the gumline where bacteria hide, and help you keep the gums healthy so the bone holding your teeth stays put.

This may be suitable if you have

  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Teeth that look longer or feel loose
  • Diabetes, which raises the risk of gum disease

What we offer

Assessment

  • Pocket charting around every tooth
  • X-rays to check bone levels
  • Risk review, including diabetes and smoking
  • Written plan and cost

Treatment

  • Deep cleaning below the gumline
  • Local antibiotic therapy where needed
  • Laser-assisted pocket therapy
  • Gum grafts for recession

Keeping it healthy

  • Maintenance cleans every 3–4 months
  • Interdental brush sizing
  • Re-charting to track progress
  • Support to stop smoking

How treatment works

  1. Measure

We chart the gum pockets around each tooth so we know exactly where the problem is.

  2. Deep clean

Under local anaesthetic, we clean the roots below the gumline where brushing can't reach.

  3. Re-check

After six to eight weeks we measure again to confirm the gums have tightened.

Frequently asked questions

Are bleeding gums serious?

They are the earliest sign of gum disease — and the stage at which it is fully reversible. It is worth a check rather than simply brushing more gently.

Is deep cleaning painful?

We numb the area first, so it is comfortable. The gums may be tender for a day or two.

Can lost gum or bone grow back?

Lost bone usually doesn't regrow on its own, which is why early treatment matters. Gum grafts can cover exposed roots in some cases.
